Heather Close

I made a quick storyboard of some of our shots that we want to do. We used these shots and also added some more.

This is us filming, Sam Whitcombe (me) and Matt duval are filming while Joab acts and Luke Bowden takes photos.

We filmed around here so we took pictures of the Area

This is a picture of Joab (our actor) walking through the woods as part of our filming.

sound

Joab made a sound track on the piano to go in our film. We tried to make the music sound tense and make it build suspense in the film as Joabs being followed.

Editing.

The Editing was mainly done by me and Matt. We started off by picking which clips would go 1st in our film. The music was made by Joab, although the music didnt work as well as we thought it would with the film because the strings turned into piano sounds when converted. We converted it to a MP3 file so it would play over the video therefore it would create tention. Matt did most of the editing but i did the titles. for this i looked at the titles of FireWall (the film) and dicided the base mine on it. The FireWall titles are green with a black background scroling slowly both ways on the screen. I did this but also made the titles fade into the shot and fade out again.

Props

In the video we had to make joab look a little bit richer. This is to make him look like he is from a important family. The plot of our video is a hitman is killing off a family. This is shown by the pictures of joabs family being crossed out showing who has been killed and who is left. Joab is the latest victum of the hitman..

When the Camera cuts to a extreme closeup of joabs dads face on the picture it shows who the hitman will be targeting next and also introducing the main charictor.

Filming

Me, Matt, Luke and Joab went out and took pictures of posible spots to do filming in and created a storyboard. We then went out for 2 weeks and did a 1st draft of filming to took at different shots that we could use. Our group took more shots then we would need so we could pick from a bigger selection of shots.

My Intentions

Through my analysis I understand the conventions of a thriller to be simple and clear. It will always start with an establishing shot and have something big happen that will be linked to the story line.

Through my target audience research i have found that people prefer thriller films more then others and that our main target audience would be for people aged 14-18. They also like higher budget films alot more then lower budget.

Therefore i plan to meet the folowing conventions by folowing the same conventions of Phonebooth. and by making it simple enough for us to make within the areas posible to film.

However i will have to plan to change the conventions because i wont have a big budget and wont have as good a camera as they do in higher budget films. I will also have to be able to edit the things i want into and outof the shots.

Die Hard3

Die hard 3 is a film of action it starts with establishing shot of where the film will be based. There is calm non-diegetic sound of upbeat musicwhen suddenly a bomb goes off and we get the genre of the film. We later find out who the charectors are and the story line.

I also looked at the film American Gangster. This film opens with a establishing shot of the state it is set in then it starts to show the charictors. We dont find out the plot of the film only the genre. This is to keep the audience asking questions. The charictors are shown to us as the way they are during the rest of the film.

Phonebooth is a thriller film that i have looked at and it has inspired me to look at thriller films as a posibility.

Film

I have desided to do film even though i have analysed two magazines. We have came up with the Genre of hour film and its going to be a thriller.

I have analysed afew films such as firewall, DieHard 3, phonebooth and American Gangster.
I have noticed that in thriller / action films start with a establishing shot of where the film is set, the main charactor is shown and the storyline of the film / genre of the film is established.

I have chosen to look at the difference's between Rap and Pop magazine covers. This is what i have noticed:
On a Rap magazine cover there is an angry looking man. This magazine cover has been photoshoped so that 'the game' and 50 Cent are mixed into one man. The genre of Rap is normaly linked to violence, sex, drugs and crime. This is expressed in the rap magazine, 50 cent and the game are both looking angry and the title underneath states: "Ultimate Fight?"
The pop magazine cover
